1
Now
the
days
of
David
drew
nigh
that
he
should
die;
and
he
charged
Solomon
his
son,
saying,
2
I
go
the
way
of
all
the
earth:
be
thou
strong
therefore,
and
shew
thyself
a
man;
3
And
keep
the
charge
of
the
LORD
thy
God,
to
walk
in
his
ways,
to
keep
his
statutes,
and
his
commandments,
and
his
judgments,
and
his
testimonies,
as
it
is
written
in
the
law
of
Moses,
that
thou
mayest
prosper
in
all
that
thou
doest,
and
whithersoever
thou
turnest
thyself:
4
That
the
LORD
may
continue
his
word
which
he
spake
concerning
me,
saying,
If
thy
children
take
heed
to
their
way,
to
walk
before
me
in
truth
with
all
their
heart
and
with
all
their
soul,
there
shall
not
fail
thee
(said
he)
a
man
on
the
throne
of
Israel.
5
Moreover
thou
knowest
also
what
Joab
the
son
of
Zeruiah
did
to
me,
and
what
he
did
to
the
two
captains
of
the
hosts
of
Israel,
unto
Abner
the
son
of
Ner,
and
unto
Amasa
the
son
of
Jether,
whom
he
slew,
and
shed
the
blood
of
war
in
peace,
and
put
the
blood
of
war
upon
his
girdle
that
was
about
his
loins,
and
in
his
shoes
that
were
on
his
feet.
6
Do
therefore
according
to
thy
wisdom,
and
let
not
his
hoar
head
go
down
to
the
grave
in
peace.
7
But
shew
kindness
unto
the
sons
of
Barzillai
the
Gileadite,
and
let
them
be
of
those
that
eat
at
thy
table:
for
so
they
came
to
me
when
I
fled
because
of
Absalom
thy
brother.
8
And,
behold,
thou
hast
with
thee
Shimei
the
son
of
Gera,
a
Benjamite
of
Bahurim,
which
cursed
me
with
a
grievous
curse
in
the
day
when
I
went
to
Mahanaim:
but
he
came
down
to
meet
me
at
Jordan,
and
I
sware
to
him
by
the
LORD,
saying,
I
will
not
put
thee
to
death
with
the
sword.
9
Now
therefore
hold
him
not
guiltless:
for
thou
art
a
wise
man,
and
knowest
what
thou
oughtest
to
do
unto
him;
but
his
hoar
head
bring
thou
down
to
the
grave
with
blood.
10
So
David
slept
with
his
fathers,
and
was
buried
in
the
city
of
David.
11
And
the
days
that
David
reigned
over
Israel
were
forty
years:
seven
years
reigned
he
in
Hebron,
and
thirty
and
three
years
reigned
he
in
Jerusalem.
12
Then
sat
Solomon
upon
the
throne
of
David
his
father;
and
his
kingdom
was
established
greatly.
13
And
Adonijah
the
son
of
Haggith
came
to
Bath-sheba
the
mother
of
Solomon.
And
she
said,
Comest
thou
peaceably?
And
he
said,
Peaceably.
14
He
said
moreover,
I
have
somewhat
to
say
unto
thee.
And
she
said,
Say
on.
15
And
he
said,
Thou
knowest
that
the
kingdom
was
mine,
and
that
all
Israel
set
their
faces
on
me,
that
I
should
reign:
howbeit
the
kingdom
is
turned
about,
and
is
become
my
brother’s:
for
it
was
his
from
the
LORD.
16
And
now
I
ask
one
petition
of
thee,
deny
me
not.
And
she
said
unto
him,
Say
on.
17
And
he
said,
Speak,
I
pray
thee,
unto
Solomon
the
king,
(for
he
will
not
say
thee
nay,)
that
he
give
me
Abishag
the
Shunammite
to
wife.
18
And
Bath-sheba
said,
Well;
I
will
speak
for
thee
unto
the
king.
19
Bath-sheba
therefore
went
unto
king
Solomon,
to
speak
unto
him
for
Adonijah.
And
the
king
rose
up
to
meet
her,
and
bowed
himself
unto
her,
and
sat
down
on
his
throne,
and
caused
a
seat
to
be
set
for
the
king’s
mother;
and
she
sat
on
his
right
hand.
20
Then
she
said,
I
desire
one
small
petition
of
thee;
I
pray
thee,
say
me
not
nay.
And
the
king
said
unto
her,
Ask
on,
my
mother:
for
I
will
not
say
thee
nay.
21
And
she
said,
Let
Abishag
the
Shunammite
be
given
to
Adonijah
thy
brother
to
wife.
22
And
king
Solomon
answered
and
said
unto
his
mother,
And
why
dost
thou
ask
Abishag
the
Shunammite
for
Adonijah?
ask
for
him
the
kingdom
also;
for
he
is
mine
elder
brother;
even
for
him,
and
for
Abiathar
the
priest,
and
for
Joab
the
son
of
Zeruiah.
23
Then
king
Solomon
sware
by
the
LORD,
saying,
God
do
so
to
me,
and
more
also,
if
Adonijah
have
not
spoken
this
word
against
his
own
life.
24
Now
therefore,
as
the
LORD
liveth,
which
hath
established
me,
and
set
me
on
the
throne
of
David
my
father,
and
who
hath
made
me
an
house,
as
he
promised,
Adonijah
shall
be
put
to
death
this
day.
25
And
king
Solomon
sent
by
the
hand
of
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada;
and
he
fell
upon
him
that
he
died.
26
And
unto
Abiathar
the
priest
said
the
king,
Get
thee
to
Anathoth,
unto
thine
own
fields;
for
thou
art
worthy
of
death:
but
I
will
not
at
this
time
put
thee
to
death,
because
thou
barest
the
ark
of
the
Lord
GOD
before
David
my
father,
and
because
thou
hast
been
afflicted
in
all
wherein
my
father
was
afflicted.
27
So
Solomon
thrust
out
Abiathar
from
being
priest
unto
the
LORD;
that
he
might
fulfil
the
word
of
the
LORD,
which
he
spake
concerning
the
house
of
Eli
in
Shiloh.
28
Then
tidings
came
to
Joab:
for
Joab
had
turned
after
Adonijah,
though
he
turned
not
after
Absalom.
And
Joab
fled
unto
the
tabernacle
of
the
LORD,
and
caught
hold
on
the
horns
of
the
altar.
29
And
it
was
told
king
Solomon
that
Joab
was
fled
unto
the
tabernacle
of
the
LORD;
and,
behold,
he
is
by
the
altar.
Then
Solomon
sent
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada,
saying,
Go,
fall
upon
him.
30
And
Benaiah
came
to
the
tabernacle
of
the
LORD,
and
said
unto
him,
Thus
saith
the
king,
Come
forth.
And
he
said,
Nay;
but
I
will
die
here.
And
Benaiah
brought
the
king
word
again,
saying,
Thus
said
Joab,
and
thus
he
answered
me.
31
And
the
king
said
unto
him,
Do
as
he
hath
said,
and
fall
upon
him,
and
bury
him;
that
thou
mayest
take
away
the
innocent
blood,
which
Joab
shed,
from
me,
and
from
the
house
of
my
father.
32
And
the
LORD
shall
return
his
blood
upon
his
own
head,
who
fell
upon
two
men
more
righteous
and
better
than
he,
and
slew
them
with
the
sword,
my
father
David
not
knowing
thereof,
to
wit,
Abner
the
son
of
Ner,
captain
of
the
host
of
Israel,
and
Amasa
the
son
of
Jether,
captain
of
the
host
of
Judah.
33
Their
blood
shall
therefore
return
upon
the
head
of
Joab,
and
upon
the
head
of
his
seed
for
ever:
but
upon
David,
and
upon
his
seed,
and
upon
his
house,
and
upon
his
throne,
shall
there
be
peace
for
ever
from
the
LORD.
34
So
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada
went
up,
and
fell
upon
him,
and
slew
him:
and
he
was
buried
in
his
own
house
in
the
wilderness.
35
And
the
king
put
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada
in
his
room
over
the
host:
and
Zadok
the
priest
did
the
king
put
in
the
room
of
Abiathar.
36
And
the
king
sent
and
called
for
Shimei,
and
said
unto
him,
Build
thee
an
house
in
Jerusalem,
and
dwell
there,
and
go
not
forth
thence
any
whither.
37
For
it
shall
be,
that
on
the
day
thou
goest
out,
and
passest
over
the
brook
Kidron,
thou
shalt
know
for
certain
that
thou
shalt
surely
die:
thy
blood
shall
be
upon
thine
own
head.
38
And
Shimei
said
unto
the
king,
The
saying
is
good:
as
my
lord
the
king
hath
said,
so
will
thy
servant
do.
And
Shimei
dwelt
in
Jerusalem
many
days.
39
And
it
came
to
pass
at
the
end
of
three
years,
that
two
of
the
servants
of
Shimei
ran
away
unto
Achish
son
of
Maachah
king
of
Gath.
And
they
told
Shimei,
saying,
Behold,
thy
servants
be
in
Gath.
40
And
Shimei
arose,
and
saddled
his
ass,
and
went
to
Gath
to
Achish
to
seek
his
servants:
and
Shimei
went,
and
brought
his
servants
from
Gath.
41
And
it
was
told
Solomon
that
Shimei
had
gone
from
Jerusalem
to
Gath,
and
was
come
again.
42
And
the
king
sent
and
called
for
Shimei,
and
said
unto
him,
Did
I
not
make
thee
to
swear
by
the
LORD,
and
protested
unto
thee,
saying,
Know
for
a
certain,
on
the
day
thou
goest
out,
and
walkest
abroad
any
whither,
that
thou
shalt
surely
die?
and
thou
saidst
unto
me,
The
word
that
I
have
heard
is
good.
43
Why
then
hast
thou
not
kept
the
oath
of
the
LORD,
and
the
commandment
that
I
have
charged
thee
with?
44
The
king
said
moreover
to
Shimei,
Thou
knowest
all
the
wickedness
which
thine
heart
is
privy
to,
that
thou
didst
to
David
my
father:
therefore
the
LORD
shall
return
thy
wickedness
upon
thine
own
head;
45
And
king
Solomon
shall
be
blessed,
and
the
throne
of
David
shall
be
established
before
the
LORD
for
ever.
46
So
the
king
commanded
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada;
which
went
out,
and
fell
upon
him,
that
he
died.
And
the
kingdom
was
established
in
the
hand
of
Solomon.
Luke 21:33
33
Heaven
and
earth
shall
pass
away:
but
my
words
shall
not
pass
away.

12
And
Solomon

his

established
greatly,
13
and
Adonijah

Bath-Sheba,
mother
of
Solomon,

she
saith,
`Is

he
saith,
`Peace.`
14
And
he
saith,
`I

and
she
saith,

15
And
he
saith,
`Thou

and
she
saith
unto
him,
`Speak.`
17
And
he
saith,
`Speak,

Solomon
the
king,
for
he

and

18
And
Bath-Sheba
saith,
`Good;

unto
the

19
And
Bath-Sheba
cometh
in
unto
king
Solomon
to
speak
to
him
for
Adonijah,
and
the
king
riseth
to
meet
her,
and
boweth
himself
to
her,
and
sitteth
on
his
throne,
and
placeth
a
throne
for
the
mother
of
the
king,
and
she
sitteth
at
his
right
hand.
20
And
she
saith,
`One

petition
I
ask
of
thee,
turn
not

and
the
king
saith
to
her,
`Ask,
my
mother,
for
I
do
not
turn
back

21
And
she
saith,
`Let
Abishag
the
Shunammite
be
given
to
Adonijah
thy
brother
for
a
wife.`
22
And
king
Solomon
answereth
and
saith
to
his
mother,
`And
why
art

asking
Abishag
the
Shunammite
for
Adonijah?

elder
brother
--
even
for
him,

23
And
king
Solomon
sweareth
by
Jehovah,
saying,
`Thus

God
to
me,
and
thus
He
doth
add
--
surely

Adonijah
spoken

24
and
now,
Jehovah
liveth,
who

established
me,

causeth
me

David
my

and
who
hath
made
for
me
an
house
as
He
spake
--
surely
to-day
is
Adonijah
put

25
And
king
Solomon
sendeth
by
the
hand
of
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada,
and
he
falleth
upon
him,
and
he
dieth.
26
And
to
Abiathar
the
priest
said
the
king,
`To
Anathoth
go,
unto
thy
fields;
for
a
man
of
death
thou
art
,
but
in
this
day
I
do
not
put
thee
to
death,
because
thou
hast
borne
the
ark
of
the
Lord
Jehovah
before
David
my
father,
and
because
thou
wast
afflicted
in
all
that
my
father
was
afflicted
in.`
27
And
Solomon
casteth
out
Abiathar
from
being
priest
to
Jehovah,
to
fulfil
the
word
of
Jehovah
which
He
spake
concerning
the
house
of
Eli
in
Shiloh.
28
And
the
report
hath
come
unto
Joab
--
for
Joab
hath
turned
aside
after
Adonijah,
though
after
Absalom
he
did
not
turn
aside
--
and
Joab
fleeth
unto
the
tent
of
Jehovah,
and
layeth
hold
on
the
horns
of
the
altar.
29
And
it
is
declared
to
king
Solomon
that
Joab
hath
fled
unto

tent
of
Jehovah,
and
lo,
near
the
altar;
and
Solomon
sendeth
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada,
saying,
`Go,
fall

him.`
30
And
Benaiah
cometh
in
unto
the
tent
of
Jehovah,
and
saith
unto
him,
`Thus
said
the
king,
Come
out;`
and
he
saith,
`Nay,
but
here
I
die.`
And
Benaiah
bringeth
back
the
king
word,
saying,
`Thus
spake
Joab,
yea,
thus
he
answered
me.`
31
And
the
king
saith
to
him,
`Do
as
he
hath
spoken,
and
fall
upon
him,
and
thou
hast
buried
him,

Joab
shed,
from

me,
and
from

father;
32
and
Jehovah

--
and

and

and

and

and

there

34
And
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada
goeth
up
and
falleth
upon
him,
and
putteth
him
to
death,
and
he
is
buried
in
his

in
the

35
and
the
king
putteth
Benaiah
son

Jehoiada
in
his
stead
over
the
host,
and
Zadok
the
priest
hath
the
king
put

the
stead

Abiathar.
36
And
the
king
sendeth
and
calleth
for
Shimei,
and
saith
to
him,
`Build

and
Shimei

a
man
on
the
throne
of
Israel.
5
Moreover
thou
knowest
also
what
Joab
the
son
of
Zeruiah
did
unto
me,
even
what
he
did
to
the
two
captains
of
the
hosts
of
Israel,
unto
Abner
the
son
of

and
unto
Amasa
the

whom
he
slew,
and
shed
the

in

of

that

and
in
his

that
were
on
his

6
Do
therefore
according
to
thy
wisdom,
and
let
not
his
hoar
head
go
down
to
Sheol
in
peace.
7
But
show
kindness
unto
the
sons
of
Barzillai
the
Gileadite,
and
let
them
be
of
those
that
eat
at
thy
table;
for
so
they
came
to
me
when
I
fled
from
Absalom
thy
brother.
8
And,
behold,
there
is
with
thee
Shimei
the
son
of
Gera,
the
Benjamite,
of
Bahurim,
who
cursed
me
with
a
grievous
curse
in
the
day
when
I
went
to
Mahanaim;
but
he
came
down
to
meet
me
at
the
Jordan,
and
I
sware
to
him
by
Jehovah,
saying,
I
will
not
put
thee
to
death
with
the
sword.
9
Now
therefore
hold
him
not
guiltless,
for
thou
art
a
wise
man;
and
thou
wilt
know
what
thou
oughtest
to
do
unto
him,
and
thou
shalt
bring
his
hoar
head
down
to
Sheol
with
blood.
10
And
David
slept
with
his
fathers,
and
was
buried
in
the
city
of
David.
11
And
the
days
that
David
reigned
over
Israel
were
forty
years;
seven
years
reigned
he
in
Hebron,
and
thirty
and
three
years
reigned
he
in
Jerusalem.
12
And
Solomon
sat
upon
the
throne
of
David
his
father;
and
his
kingdom
was
established
greatly.
13
Then
Adonijah
the
son
of
Haggith
came
to
Bath-sheba
the
mother
of
Solomon.
And
she
said,
Comest
thou
peaceably?
And
he
said,
Peaceably.
14
He
said
moreover,
I
have
somewhat
to
say
unto
thee.
And
she
said,
Say
on.
15
And
he
said,
Thou
knowest
that
the
kingdom
was
mine,
and
that
all
Israel
set
their
faces
on
me,
that
I
should
reign:
howbeit
the
kingdom
is
turned
about,
and
is
become
my
brothers;
for
it
was
his
from
Jehovah.
16
And
now
I
ask
one
petition
of
thee;
deny
me
not.
And
she
said
unto
him,
Say
on.
17
And
he
said,
Speak,
I
pray
thee,
unto
Solomon
the
king
(for
he
will
not
say
thee
nay),
that
he
give
me
Abishag
the
Shunammite
to
wife.
18
And
Bath-sheba
said,
Well;
I
will
speak
for
thee
unto
the
king.
19
Bath-sheba
therefore
went
unto
king
Solomon,
to
speak
unto
him
for
Adonijah.
And
the
king
rose
up
to
meet
her,
and
bowed
himself
unto
her,
and
sat
down
on
his
throne,
and
caused
a
throne
to
be
set
for
the
kings
mother;
and
she
sat
on
his
right
hand.
20
Then
she
said,
I
ask
one
small
petition
of
thee;
deny
me
not.
And
the
king
said
unto
her,
Ask
on,
my
mother;
for
I
will
not
deny
thee.
21
And
she
said,
Let
Abishag
the
Shunammite
be
given
to
Adonijah
thy
brother
to
wife.
22
And
king
Solomon
answered
and
said
unto
his
mother,
And
why
dost
thou
ask
Abishag
the
Shunammite
for
Adonijah?
ask
for
him
the
kingdom
also;
for
he
is
mine
elder
brother;
even
for
him,
and
for
Abiathar
the
priest,
and
for
Joab
the
son
of
Zeruiah.
23
Then
king
Solomon
sware
by
Jehovah,
saying,
God
do
so
to
me,
and
more
also,
if
Adonijah
hath
not
spoken
this
word
against
his
own
life.
24
Now
therefore
as
Jehovah
liveth,
who
hath
established
me,
and
set
me
on
the
throne
of
David
my
father,
and
who
hath
made
me
a
house,
as
he
promised,
surely
Adonijah
shall
be
put
to
death
this
day.
25
And
king
Solomon
sent
by
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada;
and
he
fell
upon
him,
so
that
he
died.
26
And
unto
Abiathar
the
priest
said
the
king,
Get
thee
to
Anathoth,
unto
thine
own
fields;
for
thou
art
worthy
of
death:
but
I
will
not
at
this
time
put
thee
to
death,
because
thou
barest
the
ark
of
the
Lord
Jehovah
before
David
my
father,
and
because
thou
wast
afflicted
in
all
wherein
my
father
was
afflicted.
27
So
Solomon
thrust
out
Abiathar
from
being
priest
unto
Jehovah,
that
he
might
fulfil
the
word
of
Jehovah,
which
he
spake
concerning
the
house
of
Eli
in
Shiloh.
28
And
the
tidings
came
to
Joab;
for
Joab
had
turned
after
Adonijah,
though
he
turned
not
after
Absalom.
And
Joab
fled
unto
the
Tent
of
Jehovah,
and
caught
hold
on
the
horns
of
the
altar.
29
And
it
was
told
king
Solomon,
Joab
is
fled
unto
the
Tent
of
Jehovah,
and,
behold,
he
is
by
the
altar.
Then
Solomon
sent
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada,
saying,
Go,
fall
upon
him.
30
And
Benaiah
came
to
the
Tent
of
Jehovah,
and
said
unto
him,
Thus
saith
the
king,
Come
forth.
And
he
said,
Nay;
but
I
will
die
here.
And
Benaiah
brought
the
king
word
again,
saying,
Thus
said
Joab,
and
thus
he
answered
me.
31
And
the
king
said
unto
him,
Do
as
he
hath
said,
and
fall
upon
him,
and
bury
him;
that
thou
mayest
take
away
the
blood,
which
Joab
shed
without
cause,
from
me
and
from
my
fathers
house.
32
And
Jehovah
will
return
his
blood
upon
his
own
head,
because
he
fell
upon
two
men
more
righteous
and
better
than
he,
and
slew
them
with
the
sword,
and
my
father
David
knew
it
not,
to
wit,
Abner
the
son
of
Ner,
captain
of
the
host
of
Israel,
and
Amasa
the
son
of
Jether,
captain
of
the
host
of
Judah.
33
So
shall
their
blood
return
upon
the
head
of
Joab,
and
upon
the
head
of
his
seed
for
ever:
but
unto
David,
and
unto
his
seed,
and
unto
his
house,
and
unto
his
throne,
shall
there
be
peace
for
ever
from
Jehovah.
34
Then
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada
went
up,
and
fell
upon
him,
and
slew
him;
and
he
was
buried
in
his
own
house
in
the
wilderness.
35
And
the
king
put
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada
in
his
room
over
the
host;
and
Zadok
the
priest
did
the
king
put
in
the
room
of
Abiathar.
36
And
the
king
sent
and
called
for
Shimei,
and
said
unto
him,
Build
thee
a
house
in
Jerusalem,
and
dwell
there,
and
go
not
forth
thence
any
whither.
37
For
on
the
day
thou
goest
out,
and
passest
over
the
brook
Kidron,
know
thou
for
certain
that
thou
shalt
surely
die:
thy
blood
shall
be
upon
thine
own
head.
38
And
Shimei
said
unto
the
king,
The
saying
is
good:
as
my
lord
the
king
hath
said,
so
will
thy
servant
do.
And
Shimei
dwelt
in
Jerusalem
many
days.
39
And
it
came
to
pass
at
the
end
of
three
years,
that
two
of
the
servants
of
Shimei
ran
away
unto
Achish,
son
of
Maacah,
king
of
Gath.
And
they
told
Shimei,
saying,
Behold,
thy
servants
are
in
Gath.
40
And
Shimei
arose,
and
saddled
his
ass,
and
went
to
Gath
to
Achish,
to
seek
his
servants;
and
Shimei
went,
and
brought
his
servants
from
Gath.
41
And
it
was
told
Solomon
that
Shimei
had
gone
from
Jerusalem
to
Gath,
and
was
come
again.
42
And
the
king
sent
and
called
for
Shimei,
and
said
unto
him,
Did
I
not
adjure
thee
by
Jehovah,
and
protest
unto
thee,
saying,
Know
for
certain,
that
on
the
day
thou
goest
out,
and
walkest
abroad
any
whither,
thou
shalt
surely
die?
and
thou
saidst
unto
me,
The
saying
that
I
have
heard
is
good.
43
Why
then
hast
thou
not
kept
the
oath
of
Jehovah,
and
the
commandment
that
I
have
charged
thee
with?
44
The
king
said
moreover
to
Shimei,
Thou
knowest
all
the
wickedness
which
thy
heart
is
privy
to,
that
thou
didst
to
David
my
father:
therefore
Jehovah
shall
return
thy
wickedness
upon
thine
own
head.
45
But
king
Solomon
shall
be
blessed,
and
the
throne
of
David
shall
be
established
before
Jehovah
for
ever.
46
So
the
king
commanded
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada;
and
he
went
out,
and
fell
upon
him,
so
that
he
died.
And
the
kingdom
was
established
in
the
hand
of
Solomon.
Luke 21:33
33
Heaven
and
earth
shall
pass
away:
but
my
words
shall
not
pass
away.

Say

He
said,
Please

Solomon
the

he

that
he

18
Bathsheba
said,
Well;
I

19
Bathsheba
therefore
went
to
king
Solomon,
to

to

for
Adonijah.
The
king
rose
up
to
meet
her,
and

21
She
said,
Let

22
King
Solomon
answered
his
mother,
Why
do
you
ask
Abishag
the

for
Adonijah?
ask
for
him
the
kingdom
also;
for
he
is
my

even
for
him,
and
for
Abiathar
the

and
for
Joab

23
Then
king
Solomon
swore
by
Yahweh,
saying,
God
do
so
to
me,
and
more
also,
if
Adonijah
has
not
spoken
this
word
against
his

24
Now
therefore
as
Yahweh

who
has

and

25
King
Solomon
sent
by
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada;
and
he
fell
on
him,
so
that
he
died.
26
To
Abiathar
the

that
he

of
Yahweh,
which
he
spoke

the

news
came
to
Joab;
for

had

Joab
fled
to

29
It
was
told
king
Solomon,
Joab

behold,
he

by
the

Then
Solomon
sent
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada,
saying,
Go,
fall
on
him.
30
Benaiah
came
to
the
Tent
of
Yahweh,
and
said
to
him,
Thus
says
the
king,
Come
forth.
He
said,
No;
but
I
will
die
here.
Benaiah
brought
the
king
word
again,
saying,
Thus
said
Joab,
and
thus
he
answered
me.
31
The
king
said
to
him,
Do
as
he
has
said,
and
fall
on
him,
and
bury
him;
that
you
may
take
away
the
blood,
which
Joab
shed
without
cause,
from
me
and
from
my
father's
house.
32
Yahweh
will
return
his
blood
on
his
own
head,
because
he
fell
on
two
men
more
righteous
and
better
than
he,
and
killed
them
with
the
sword,
and
my
father
David
didn't
know
it,
to
wit,
Abner
the
son
of
Ner,
captain
of
the
host
of
Israel,
and
Amasa
the
son
of
Jether,
captain
of
the
host
of
Judah.
33
So
shall
their
blood
return
on
the
head
of
Joab,
and
on
the
head
of
his
seed
forever:
but
to
David,
and
to
his
seed,
and
to
his
house,
and
to
his
throne,
shall
there
be
peace
for
ever
from
Yahweh.
34
Then
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada
went
up,
and
fell
on
him,
and
killed
him;
and
he
was
buried
in
his
own
house
in
the
wilderness.
35
The
king
put
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada
in
his
room
over
the
host;
and
Zadok
the
priest
did
the
king
put
in
the
room
of
Abiathar.
36
The
king
sent
and
called
for
Shimei,
and
said
to
him,
Build
yourself
a
house
in
Jerusalem,
and
dwell
there,
and
don't
go
forth
from
there
any
where.
37
For
on
the
day
you
go
out,
and
pass
over
the
brook
Kidron,
know
you
for
certain
that
you
shall
surely
die:
your
blood
shall
be
on
your
own
head.
38
Shimei
said
to
the
king,
The
saying
is
good:
as
my
lord
the
king
has
said,
so
will
your
servant
do.
Shimei
lived
in
Jerusalem
many
days.
39
It
happened
at
the
end
of
three
years,
that
two
of
the
servants
of
Shimei
ran
away
to
Achish,
son
of
Maacah,
king
of
Gath.
They
told
Shimei,
saying,
Behold,
your
servants
are
in
Gath.
40
Shimei
arose,
and
saddled
his
donkey,
and
went
to
Gath
to
Achish,
to
seek
his
servants;
and
Shimei
went,
and
brought
his
servants
from
Gath.
41
It
was
told
Solomon
that
Shimei
had
gone
from
Jerusalem
to
Gath,
and
was
come
again.
42
The
king
sent
and
called
for
Shimei,
and
said
to
him,
Didn't
I
adjure
you
by
Yahweh,
and
protest
to
you,
saying,
Know
for
certain,
that
on
the
day
you
go
out,
and
walk
abroad
any
where,
you
shall
surely
die?
and
you
said
to
me,
The
saying
that
I
have
heard
is
good.
43
Why
then
have
you
not
kept
the
oath
of
Yahweh,
and
the
commandment
that
I
have
charged
you
with?
44
The
king
said
moreover
to
Shimei,
You
know
all
the
wickedness
which
your
heart
is
privy
to,
that
you
did
to
David
my
father:
therefore
Yahweh
shall
return
your
wickedness
on
your
own
head.
45
But
king
Solomon
shall
be
blessed,
and
the
throne
of
David
shall
be
established
before
Yahweh
forever.
46
So
the
king
commanded
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada;
and
he
went
out,
and
fell
on
him,
so
that
he
died.
The
kingdom
was
established
in
the
hand
of
Solomon.
Luke 21:33
33
Heaven
and
earth
will
pass
away,
but
my
words
will
by
no
means
pass
away.

And,

there
is
with

Shimei
the

of

the
Benjamite,
of
Bahurim,
who
cursed
me
with
a

in
the

when
I
went

Mahanaim:
but
he
came
down
to

at

and
I
sware
to
him
by
the

saying,
I
will

with

Now
therefore

thou
wilt

what
thou
oughtest
to
do
unto
him,
and
thou
shalt
bring
his

down
to
the
grave
with

10
And
David
slept
with
his
fathers,
and
was
buried
in
the
city
of
David.
11
And
the
days
that
David
reigned
over
Israel
were
forty
years:
seven
years
reigned
he
in
Hebron,
and
thirty
and
three
years
reigned
he
in
Jerusalem.
12
And
Solomon
sat
upon
the
throne
of
David
his
father;
and
his
kingdom
was
established
greatly.
13
Then
Adonijah
the
son
of
Haggith
came
to
Bath-sheba
the
mother
of
Solomon.
And
she
said,
Comest
thou
peaceably?
And
he
said,
Peaceably.
14
He
said
moreover,
I
have
somewhat
to
say
unto
thee.
And
she
said,
Say
on.
15
And
he
said,
Thou
knowest
that
the
kingdom
was
mine,
and
that
all
Israel
set
their
faces
on
me,
that
I
should
reign:
howbeit
the
kingdom
is
turned
about,
and
is
become
my
brother-s:
for
it
was
his
from
the
LORD.
16
And
now
I
ask
one
petition
of
thee,
deny
me
not.
And
she
said
unto
him,
Say
on.
17
And
he
said,
Speak,
I
pray
thee,
unto
Solomon
the
king,
(for
he
will
not
say
thee
nay,)
that
he
give
me
Abishag
the
Shunammite
to
wife.
18
And
Bath-sheba
said,
Well;
I
will
speak
for
thee
unto
the
king.
19
Bath-sheba
therefore
went
unto
king
Solomon,
to
speak
unto
him
for
Adonijah.
And
the
king
rose
up
to
meet
her,
and
bowed
himself
unto
her,
and
sat
down
on
his
throne,
and
caused
a
throne
to
be
set
for
the
king-s
mother;
and
she
sat
on
his
right
hand.
20
Then
she
said,
I
ask
one
small
petition
of
thee;
deny
me
not.
And
the
king
said
unto
her,
Ask
on,
my
mother:
for
I
will
not
deny
thee.
21
And
she
said,
Let
Abishag
the
Shunammite
be
given
to
Adonijah
thy
brother
to
wife.
22
And
king
Solomon
answered
and
said
unto
his
mother,
And
why
dost
thou
ask
Abishag
the
Shunammite
for
Adonijah?
ask
for
him
the
kingdom
also;
for
he
is
mine
elder
brother;
even
for
him,
and
for
Abiathar
the
priest,
and
for
Joab
the
son
of
Zeruiah.
23
Then
king
Solomon
sware
by
the
LORD,
saying,
God
do
so
to
me,
and
more
also,
if
Adonijah
have
not
spoken
this
word
against
his
own
life.
24
Now
therefore
as
the
LORD
liveth,
who
hath
established
me,
and
set
me
on
the
throne
of
David
my
father,
and
who
hath
made
me
an
house,
as
he
promised,
surely
Adonijah
shall
be
put
to
death
this
day.
25
And
king
Solomon
sent
by
the
hand
of
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada;
and
he
fell
upon
him,
that
he
died.
26
And
unto
Abiathar
the
priest
said
the
king,
Get
thee
to
Anathoth,
unto
thine
own
fields;
for
thou
art
worthy
of
death:
but
I
will
not
at
this
time
put
thee
to
death,
because
thou
barest
the
ark
of
the
Lord
GOD
before
David
my
father,
and
because
thou
wast
afflicted
in
all
wherein
my
father
was
afflicted.
27
So
Solomon
thrust
out
Abiathar
from
being
priest
unto
the
LORD;
that
he
might
fulfill
the
word
of
the
LORD,
which
he
spake
concerning
the
house
of
Eli
in
Shiloh.
28
And
the
tidings
came
to
Joab:
for
Joab
had
turned
after
Adonijah,
though
he
turned
not
after
Absalom.
And
Joab
fled
unto
the
Tent
of
the
LORD,
and
caught
hold
on
the
horns
of
the
altar.
29
And
it
was
told
king
Solomon,
Joab
is
fled
unto
the
Tent
of
the
LORD,
and,
behold,
he
is
by
the
altar.
Then
Solomon
sent
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada,
saying,
Go,
fall
upon
him.
30
And
Benaiah
came
to
the
Tent
of
the
LORD,
and
said
unto
him,
Thus
saith
the
king,
Come
forth.
And
he
said,
Nay;
but
I
will
die
here.
And
Benaiah
brought
the
king
word
again,
saying,
Thus
said
Joab,
and
thus
he
answered
me.
31
And
the
king
said
unto
him,
Do
as
he
hath
said,
and
fall
upon
him,
and
bury
him;
that
thou
mayest
take
away
the
blood,
which
Joab
shed
without
cause,
from
me
and
from
my
father-s
house.
32
And
the
LORD
shall
return
his
blood
upon
his
own
head,
because
he
fell
upon
two
men
more
righteous
and
better
than
he,
and
slew
them
with
the
sword,
and
my
father
David
knew
it
not,
{cf15i
to

Abner
the
son
of
Ner,
captain
of
the
host
of
Israel,
and
Amasa
the
son
of
Jether,
captain
of
the
host
of
Judah.
33
So
shall
their
blood
return
upon
the
head
of
Joab,
and
upon
the
head
of
his
seed
for
ever:
but
unto
David,
and
unto
his
seed,
and
unto
his
house,
and
unto
his
throne,
shall
there
be
peace
for
ever
from
the
LORD.
34
Then
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada
went
up,
and
fell
upon
him,
and
slew
him;
and
he
was
buried
in
his
own
house
in
the
wilderness.
35
And
the
king
put
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada
in
his
room
over
the
host:
and
Zadok
the
priest
did
the
king
put
in
the
room
of
Abiathar.
36
And
the
king
sent
and
called
for
Shimei,
and
said
unto
him,
Build
thee
an
house
in
Jerusalem,
and
dwell
there,
and
go
not
forth
thence
any
whither.
37
For
on
the

many

king
of
Gath.
And
they
told
Shimei,
saying;
Behold,
thy
servants
be
in
Gath.
40
And
Shimei
arose,
and
saddled
his
ass,
and
went
to
Gath
to
Achish,
to
seek
his
servants:
and
Shimei
went,
and
brought
his
servants
from
Gath.
41
And
it
was
told
Solomon
that
Shimei
had
gone
from
Jerusalem
to
Gath,
and
was
come
again.
42
And
the
king
sent
and
called
for
Shimei,
and
said
unto
him,
Did
I
not
make
thee
to
swear
by
the
LORD,
and
protested
unto
thee,
saying,
Know
for
certain,
that
on
the
day
thou
goest

and

any

and
thou
saidst
unto
me,
The

43
Why
then
hast
thou
not
kept
the
oath
of
the

and
the
commandment

I

44
The

said
moreover
to

your
brother.
8
And,
behold,
you
have
with
you
Shimei
the
son
of
Gera,
a
Benjamite
of
Bahurim,
which
cursed
me
with
a
grievous
curse
in
the
day
when
I
went
to
Mahanaim:
but
he
came
down
to
meet
me
at
Jordan,
and
I
swore
to
him
by
the
LORD,
saying,
I
will
not
put
you
to
death
with
the
sword.
9
Now
therefore
hold
him
not
guiltless:
for
you
are
a
wise
man,
and
know
what
you
ought
to
do
to
him;
but
his
hoar
head
bring
you
down
to
the
grave
with
blood.
10
So
David
slept
with
his
fathers,
and
was
buried
in
the
city
of
David.
11
And
the
days
that
David
reigned
over
Israel
were
forty
years:
seven
years
reigned
he
in
Hebron,
and
thirty
and
three
years
reigned
he
in
Jerusalem.
12
Then
sat
Solomon
on
the
throne
of
David
his
father;
and
his
kingdom
was
established
greatly.
13
And
Adonijah
the
son
of
Haggith
came
to
Bathsheba
the
mother
of
Solomon.
And
she
said,
Come
you
peaceably?
And
he
said,
Peaceably.
14
He
said
moreover,
I
have
somewhat
to
say
to
you.
And
she
said,
Say
on.
15
And
he
said,
You
know
that
the
kingdom
was
mine,
and
that
all
Israel
set
their
faces
on
me,
that
I
should
reign:
however,
the
kingdom
is
turned
about,
and
is
become
my
brother's:
for
it
was
his
from
the
LORD.
16
And
now
I
ask
one
petition
of
you,
deny
me
not.
And
she
said
to
him,
Say
on.
17
And
he
said,
Speak,
I
pray
you,
to
Solomon
the
king,
(for
he
will
not
say
you
no,)
that
he
give
me
Abishag
the
Shunammite
to
wife.
18
And
Bathsheba
said,
Well;
I
will
speak
for
you
to
the
king.
19
Bathsheba
therefore
went
to
king
Solomon,
to
speak
to
him
for
Adonijah.
And
the
king
rose
up
to
meet
her,
and
bowed
himself
to
her,
and
sat
down
on
his
throne,
and
caused
a
seat
to
be
set
for
the
king's
mother;
and
she
sat
on
his
right
hand.
20
Then
she
said,
I
desire
one
small
petition
of
you;
I
pray
you,
say
me
not
no.
And
the
king
said
to
her,
Ask
on,
my
mother:
for
I
will
not
say
you
no.
21
And
she
said,
Let
Abishag
the
Shunammite
be
given
to
Adonijah
your
brother
to
wife.
22
And
king
Solomon
answered
and
said
to
his
mother,
And
why
do
you
ask
Abishag
the
Shunammite
for
Adonijah?
ask
for
him
the
kingdom
also;
for
he
is
my
elder
brother;
even
for
him,
and
for
Abiathar
the
priest,
and
for
Joab
the
son
of
Zeruiah.
23
Then
king
Solomon
swore
by
the
LORD,
saying,
God
do
so
to
me,
and
more
also,
if
Adonijah
have
not
spoken
this
word
against
his
own
life.
24
Now
therefore,
as
the
LORD
lives,
which
has
established
me,
and
set
me
on
the
throne
of
David
my
father,
and
who
has
made
me
an
house,
as
he
promised,
Adonijah
shall
be
put
to
death
this
day.
25
And
king
Solomon
sent
by
the
hand
of
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada;
and
he
fell
on
him
that
he
died.
26
And
to
Abiathar
the
priest
said
the
king,
Get
you
to
Anathoth,
to
your
own
fields;
for
you
are
worthy
of
death:
but
I
will
not
at
this
time
put
you
to
death,
because
you
bore
the
ark
of
the
LORD
God
before
David
my
father,
and
because
you
have
been
afflicted
in
all
wherein
my
father
was
afflicted.
27
So
Solomon
thrust
out
Abiathar
from
being
priest
to
the
LORD;
that
he
might
fulfill
the
word
of
the
LORD,
which
he
spoke
concerning
the
house
of
Eli
in
Shiloh.
28
Then
tidings
came
to
Joab:
for
Joab
had
turned
after
Adonijah,
though
he
turned
not
after
Absalom.
And
Joab
fled
to
the
tabernacle
of
the
LORD,
and
caught
hold
on
the
horns
of
the
altar.
29
And
it
was
told
king
Solomon
that
Joab
was
fled
to
the
tabernacle
of
the
LORD;
and,
behold,
he
is
by
the
altar.
Then
Solomon
sent
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada,
saying,
Go,
fall
on
him.
30
And
Benaiah
came
to
the
tabernacle
of
the
LORD,
and
said
to
him,
Thus
said
the
king,
Come
forth.
And
he
said,
No;
but
I
will
die
here.
And
Benaiah
brought
the
king
word
again,
saying,
Thus
said
Joab,
and
thus
he
answered
me.
31
And
the
king
said
to
him,
Do
as
he
has
said,
and
fall
on
him,
and
bury
him;
that
you
may
take
away
the
innocent
blood,
which
Joab
shed,
from
me,
and
from
the
house
of
my
father.
32
And
the
LORD
shall
return
his
blood
on
his
own
head,
who
fell
on
two
men
more
righteous
and
better
than
he,
and
slew
them
with
the
sword,
my
father
David
not
knowing
thereof,
to
wit,
Abner
the
son
of
Ner,
captain
of
the
host
of
Israel,
and
Amasa
the
son
of
Jether,
captain
of
the
host
of
Judah.
33
Their
blood
shall
therefore
return
on
the
head
of
Joab,
and
on
the
head
of
his
seed
for
ever:
but
on
David,
and
on
his
seed,
and
on
his
house,
and
on
his
throne,
shall
there
be
peace
for
ever
from
the
LORD.
34
So
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada
went
up,
and
fell
on
him,
and
slew
him:
and
he
was
buried
in
his
own
house
in
the
wilderness.
35
And
the
king
put
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada
in
his
room
over
the
host:
and
Zadok
the
priest
did
the
king
put
in
the
room
of
Abiathar.
36
And
the
king
sent
and
called
for
Shimei,
and
said
to
him,
Build
you
an
house
in
Jerusalem,
and
dwell
there,
and
go
not
forth
there
any
where.
37
For
it
shall
be,
that
on
the
day
you
go
out,
and
pass
over
the
brook
Kidron,
you
shall
know
for
certain
that
you
shall
surely
die:
your
blood
shall
be
on
your
own
head.
38
And
Shimei
said
to
the
king,
The
saying
is
good:
as
my
lord
the
king
has
said,
so
will
your
servant
do.
And
Shimei
dwelled
in
Jerusalem
many
days.
39
And
it
came
to
pass
at
the
end
of
three
years,
that
two
of
the
servants
of
Shimei
ran
away
to
Achish
son
of
Maachah
king
of
Gath.
And
they
told
Shimei,
saying,
Behold,
your
servants
be
in
Gath.
40
And
Shimei
arose,
and
saddled
his
ass,
and
went
to
Gath
to
Achish
to
seek
his
servants:
and
Shimei
went,
and
brought
his
servants
from
Gath.
41
And
it
was
told
Solomon
that
Shimei
had
gone
from
Jerusalem
to
Gath,
and
was
come
again.
42
And
the
king
sent
and
called
for
Shimei,
and
said
to
him,
Did
I
not
make
you
to
swear
by
the
LORD,
and
protested
to
you,
saying,
Know
for
a
certain,
on
the
day
you
go
out,
and
walk
abroad
any
where,
that
you
shall
surely
die?
and
you
said
to
me,
The
word
that
I
have
heard
is
good.
43
Why
then
have
you
not
kept
the
oath
of
the
LORD,
and
the
commandment
that
I
have
charged
you
with?
44
The
king
said
moreover
to
Shimei,
You
know
all
the
wickedness
which
your
heart
is
privy
to,
that
you
did
to
David
my
father:
therefore
the
LORD
shall
return
your
wickedness
on
your
own
head;
45
And
king
Solomon
shall
be
blessed,
and
the
throne
of
David
shall
be
established
before
the
LORD
for
ever.
46
So
the
king
commanded
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada;
which
went
out,
and
fell
on
him,
that
he
died.
And
the
kingdom
was
established
in
the
hand
of
Solomon.
Luke 21:33
33
Heaven
and
earth
shall
pass
away:
but
my
words
shall
not
pass
away.

When
David
was
close
to
death,
he
told
Solomon
his
son:
2
"I
am
about
to
die.
Be
strong
and
become
a

the

you

then,'
he
promised,
'you

now
don't

him

a

him;

he

a

Then
David
passed
away
and
was
buried
in
the
city
of
David.
11
David
reigned
over
Israel
forty
years;
he
reigned
in
Hebron
seven
years,
and
in
Jerusalem
thirty-three
years.
12
Solomon
sat
on
his
father
David's
throne,
and
his
royal
authority
was
firmly
solidified.
13
Haggith's
son
Adonijah
visited
Bathsheba,
Solomon's
mother.
She
asked,
"Do
you
come
in
peace?"
He
answered,
"Yes."
14
He
added,
"I
have
something
to
say
to
you."
She
replied,
"Speak."
15
He
said,
"You
know
that
the
kingdom
was
mine
and
all
Israel
considered
me
king.
But
then
the
kingdom
was
given
to
my
brother,
for
the
LORD
decided
it
should
be
his.
16
Now
I'd
like
to
ask
you
for
just
one
thing.
Please
don't
refuse
me."
She
said,
"Go
ahead
and
ask."
17
He
said,
"Please
ask
King
Solomon
if
he
would
give
me
Abishag
the
Shunammite
as
a
wife,
for
he
won't
refuse
you."
18
Bathsheba
replied,
"That's
fine,
I'll
speak
to
the
king
on
your
behalf."
19
So
Bathsheba
visited
King
Solomon
to
speak
to
him
on
Adonijah's
behalf.
The
king
got
up
to
greet
her,
bowed
to
her,
and
then
sat
on
his
throne.
He
ordered
a
throne
to
be
brought
for
the
king's
mother,
and
she
sat
at
his
right
hand.
20
She
said,
"I
would
like
to
ask
you
for
just
one
small
favor.
Please
don't
refuse
me."
He
said,
"Go
ahead
and
ask,
my
mother,
for
I
would
not
refuse
you."
21
She
said,
"Allow
Abishag
the
Shunammite
to
be
given
to
your
brother
Adonijah
as
a
wife."
22
King
Solomon
answered
his
mother,
"Why
just
request
Abishag
the
Shunammite
for
him?
Since
he
is
my
older
brother,
you
should
also
request
the
kingdom
for
him,
for
Abiathar
the
priest,
and
for
Joab
son
of
Zeruiah!"
23
King
Solomon
then
swore
an
oath
by
the
LORD,
"May
God
judge
me
severely,
if
Adonijah
does
not
pay
for
this
request
with
his
life!
24
Now,
as
certainly
as
the
LORD
lives
(he
who
made
me
secure,
allowed
me
to
sit
on
my
father
David's
throne,
and
established
a
dynasty
for
me
as
he
promised),
Adonijah
will
be
executed
today!"
25
King
Solomon
then
sent
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada,
and
he
killed
Adonijah.
26
The
king
then
told
Abiathar
the
priest,
"Go
back
to
your
property
in
Anathoth.
You
deserve
to
die,
but
today
I
will
not
kill
you
because
you
did
carry
the
ark
of
the
sovereign
LORD
before
my
father
David
and
you
suffered
with
my
father
through
all
his
difficult
times."
27
Solomon
dismissed
Abiathar
from
his
position
as
priest
of
the
LORD,
fulfilling
the
decree
of
judgment
the
LORD
made
in
Shiloh
against
the
family
of
Eli.
28
When
the
news
reached
Joab
(for
Joab
had
supported
Adonijah,
although
he
had
not
supported
Absalom),
he
ran
to
the
tent
of
the
LORD
and
grabbed
hold
of
the
horns
of
the
altar.
29
When
King
Solomon
heard
that
Joab
had
run
to
the
tent
of
the
LORD
and
was
right
there
beside
the
altar,
he
ordered
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada,
"Go,
strike
him
down."
30
When
Benaiah
arrived
at
the
tent
of
the
LORD,
he
said
to
him,
"The
king
says,
'Come
out!'"
But
he
replied,
"No,
I
will
die
here!"
So
Benaiah
sent
word
to
the
king
and
reported
Joab's
reply.
31
The
king
told
him,
"Do
as
he
said!
Strike
him
down
and
bury
him.
Take
away
from
me
and
from
my
father's
family
the
guilt
of
Joab's
murderous,
bloody
deeds.
32
May
the
LORD
punish
him
for
the
blood
he
shed;
behind
my
father
David's
back
he
struck
down
and
murdered
with
the
sword
two
men
who
were
more
innocent
and
morally
upright
than
he—
Abner
son
of
Ner,
commander
of
Israel's
army,
and
Amasa
son
of
Jether,
commander
of
Judah's
army.
33
May
Joab
and
his
descendants
be
perpetually
guilty
of
their
shed
blood,
but
may
the
LORD
give
perpetual
peace
to
David,
his
descendants,
his
family,
and
his
dynasty."
34
So
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada
went
up
and
executed
Joab;
he
was
buried
at
his
home
in
the
wilderness.
35
The
king
appointed
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada
to
take
his
place
at
the
head
of
the
army,
and
the
king
appointed
Zadok
the
priest
to
take
Abiathar's
place.
36
Next
the
king
summoned
Shimei
and
told
him,
"Build
yourself
a
house
in
Jerusalem
and
live
there—
but
you
may
not
leave
there
to
go
anywhere!
37
If
you
ever
do
leave
and
cross
the
Kidron
Valley,
know
for
sure
that
you
will
certainly
die!
You
will
be
responsible
for
your
own
death."
38
Shimei
said
to
the
king,
"My
master
the
king's
proposal
is
acceptable.
Your
servant
will
do
as
you
say."
So
Shimei
lived
in
Jerusalem
for
a
long
time.
39
Three
years
later
two
of
Shimei's
servants
ran
away
to
King
Achish
son
of
Maacah
of
Gath.
Shimei
was
told,
"Look,
your
servants
are
in
Gath."
40
So
Shimei
got
up,
saddled
his
donkey,
and
went
to
Achish
at
Gath
to
find
his
servants;
Shimei
went
and
brought
back
his
servants
from
Gath.
41
When
Solomon
was
told
that
Shimei
had
gone
from
Jerusalem
to
Gath
and
had
then
returned,
42
the
king
summoned
Shimei
and
said
to
him,
"You
will
recall
that
I
made
you
take
an
oath
by
the
LORD,
and
I
solemnly
warned
you,
'If
you
ever
leave
and
go
anywhere,
know
for
sure
that
you
will
certainly
die.'
You
said
to
me,
'The
proposal
is
acceptable;
I
agree
to
it.'
43
Why
then
have
you
broken
the
oath
you
made
before
the
LORD
and
disobeyed
the
order
I
gave
you?"
44
Then
the
king
said
to
Shimei,
"You
are
well
aware
of
the
way
you
mistreated
my
father
David.
The
LORD
will
punish
you
for
what
you
did.
45
But
King
Solomon
will
be
empowered
and
David's
dynasty
will
endure
permanently
before
the
LORD."
46
The
king
then
gave
the
order
to
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada
who
went
and
executed
Shimei.
So
Solomon
took
firm
control
of
the
kingdom.
Luke 21:33

Heaven
and
earth
will
pass
away,
but
my
words
will
never
pass
away.

The
time
came
for
David
to
die,
so
he
gave
these
commands
to
Solomon,
2
"I
am
about
to
die,
like
all
men
must.
But
you
are
growing
stronger
and
becoming
a
man.
3
Now,
carefully
obey
all
the
commands
of
the

your

Carefully
obey
all
his
laws,
commands,

Obey
everything
that
is
written
in
the
Law
of
Moses.
If
you
do
this,
you
will
be
successful
at
whatever
you
do
and
wherever
you
go.
4
And
if
you
obey
the
Lord,
he
will
keep
his
promise
about
me.
He
said,
'If
your
sons
carefully
live
the
way
I
tell
them,
sincerely,
with
all
their
heart,
the
king
of
Israel
will
always
be
a
man
from
your
family.'"
5
David
also
said,
"You
remember
what
Joab
son
of
Zeruiah
did
to
me.
He
killed
two
of
the
commanders
of
Israel's
army,
Abner
son
of
Ner
and
Amasa
son
of
Jether.
Remember,
it
was
during
a
time
of
peace
when
he
spilled
the
blood
that
splattered
onto
his
sword
belt
and
army
boots.
I
should
have
punished
him
then.
6
Use
your
wisdom,
but
don't
let
him
die
peacefully
of
old
age.
7
"Also,
be
kind
to
the
children
of
Barzillai
from
Gilead.
Be
friends
with
them,
and
let
them
eat
at
your
table,
because
they
helped
me
when
I
ran
away
from
your
brother
Absalom.
8
"And
remember,
Shimei
son
of
Gera
is
still
around.
He
is
the
Benjamite
from
Bahurim
who
cursed
me
when
I
ran
away
to
Mahanaim.
But
when
he
came
down
to
meet
me
at
the
Jordan
River,
I
made
a
promise
to
him
before
the
Lord
that
I
would
not
kill
him.
9
Now,
don't
leave
him
unpunished.
You
are
a
wise
man.
You
will
know
what
you
must
do,
but
don't
let
him
die
peacefully
of
old
age."
10
Then
David
died
and
was
buried
in
the
City
of
David.
11
David
ruled
Israel
40
years.
He
ruled
seven
years
in
Hebron
and
33
years
in
Jerusalem.
12
Now
Solomon
was
king.
He
sat
on
the
throne
of
his
father
David
and
was
in
complete
control
of
his
kingdom.
13
One
day
Adonijah,
the
son
of
Haggith,
went
to
Solomon's
mother,
Bathsheba.
She
asked
him,
"Do
you
come
in
peace?"
Adonijah
answered,
"Yes,
this
is
a
peaceful
visit.
14
I
have
something
to
ask
you."
Bathsheba
said,
"Then
speak."
15
Adonijah
said,
"You
know
that
at
one
time
the
kingdom
was
mine.
All
the
people
of
Israel
wanted
me
to
be
their
king.
But
things
have
changed,
and
now
my
brother
is
the
king.
The
Lord
chose
him
to
be
king.
16
But
now
I
have
one
thing
to
ask
you.
Please
don't
refuse
me."
Bathsheba
answered,
"What
do
you
want?"
17
Adonijah
said,
"I
know
that
King
Solomon
will
do
whatever
you
ask.
So
please
ask
him
to
let
me
marry
Abishag,
the
woman
from
Shunem."
18
Then
Bathsheba
said,
"Very
well,
I
will
speak
to
the
king
for
you."
19
So
Bathsheba
went
to
King
Solomon
to
talk
with
him.
When
Solomon
saw
her,
he
stood
up,
bowed
before
her,
and
then
sat
back
down.
He
told
some
servants
to
bring
another
throne
for
his
mother,
and
she
sat
down
at
his
right
side.
20
Bathsheba
said
to
him,
"I
have
one
small
thing
to
ask
you.
Please
don't
refuse
me."
The
king
answered,
"Ask
whatever
you
want,
mother.
I
will
not
refuse
you."
21
So
Bathsheba
said,
"Let
your
brother
Adonijah
marry
Abishag,
the
woman
from
Shunem."
22
King
Solomon
answered
his
mother,
"Why
are
you
asking
me
to
give
Abishag
to
Adonijah?
Why
don't
you
just
ask
me
to
give
him
the
whole
kingdom!
After
all,
he
is
my
older
brother,
and
both
Abiathar
the
priest
and
Joab
support
him!"
23
Then
Solomon
said,
"By
the
Lord,
I
swear
I'll
make
Adonijah
pay
for
this
with
his
life!
24
The
Lord
made
me
the
king
of
Israel.
He
gave
me
the
throne
of
my
father
David.
The
Lord
kept
his
promise
and
gave
the
kingdom
to
me
and
my
family.
Now,
as
surely
as
the
Lord
lives,
I
swear
Adonijah
will
die
today!"
25
King
Solomon
gave
the
command
to
Benaiah,
and
Benaiah
went
out
and
killed
Adonijah.
26
Then
King
Solomon
said
to
Abiathar
the
priest,
"I
should
kill
you,
but
I
will
let
you
go
back
to
your
home
in
Anathoth.
I
will
not
kill
you
now
because
you
helped
carry
the
Holy
Box
of
the
Lord
while
marching
with
my
father
David.
And
I
know
that
you
shared
in
the
hard
times
with
my
father."
27
So
Solomon
told
Abiathar
that
he
could
not
continue
to
serve
as
a
priest
of
the
Lord.
This
happened
as
the
Lord
said
it
would
when
he
told
Eli
the
priest
what
would
happen
to
him
and
his
family.
28
Joab
had
supported
Adonijah,
but
not
Absalom.
But
when
Joab
heard
what
happened
to
Abiathar,
he
was
frightened
and
ran
to
the
tent
of
the
Lord
to
hold
onto
the
horns
of
the
altar.
29
Someone
told
King
Solomon
that
Joab
was
at
the
altar
in
the
Lord's
Tent.
So
Solomon
ordered
Benaiah
to
go
and
kill
him.
30
Benaiah
went
into
the
Lord's
Tent
and
said
to
Joab,
"The
king
says,
'Come
out!'"
But
Joab
answered,
"No,
I
will
die
here."
Benaiah
went
back
to
the
king
and
told
him
what
Joab
had
said.
31
The
king
commanded
Benaiah,
"Do
as
he
says!
Kill
him
there
and
take
him
out
to
bury
him.
Then
my
family
and
I
will
be
free
of
Joab's
guilt
from
killing
innocent
people.
32
Joab
killed
two
men
who
were
much
better
than
he
was.
He
killed
Abner
son
of
Ner,
the
commander
of
the
army
of
Israel,
and
Amasa
son
of
Jether,
the
commander
of
the
army
of
Judah.
He
did
this
without
my
father's
knowledge.
But
now
the
Lord
will
punish
Joab
for
the
men
he
killed.
33
He
and
his
family
will
always
be
guilty
for
their
deaths.
But
the
Lord
will
bring
peace
to
David,
his
descendants,
his
family
of
kings,
and
his
kingdom
forever."
34
So
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada
killed
Joab,
and
he
was
buried
near
his
home
in
the
desert.
35
Solomon
then
made
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada
the
commander
of
the
army
in
Joab's
place.
Solomon
also
made
Zadok
the
new
high
priest
in
Abiathar's
place.
36
Next,
the
king
sent
for
Shimei
and
said
to
him,
"Build
yourself
a
house
here
in
Jerusalem
to
live
in
and
don't
leave
the
city.
37
If
you
leave
the
city
and
go
any
further
than
Kidron
Brook,
you
will
be
killed,
and
it
will
be
your
own
fault."
38
Shimei
answered,
"Yes,
my
king.
I
will
obey
you."
So
Shimei
lived
in
Jerusalem
for
a
long
time.
39
But
three
years
later,
two
of
Shimei's
slaves
ran
away.
They
went
to
King
Achish
of
Gath,
who
was
the
son
of
Maacah.
Shimei
heard
that
his
slaves
were
in
Gath,
40
so
he
saddled
his
donkey
and
went
to
King
Achish
at
Gath
to
find
them.
He
found
them
there
and
brought
them
back
home.
41
But
someone
told
Solomon
that
Shimei
had
left
Jerusalem
and
gone
to
Gath
and
back.
42
So
Solomon
sent
for
him
and
said,
"I
made
you
promise
in
the
Lord's
name
not
to
leave
Jerusalem.
And
I
warned
you
that
if
you
went
out
anywhere
you
would
die.
And
you
agreed
to
what
I
said.
You
said
that
you
would
obey
me.
43
So
why
didn't
you
obey
me?
Why
did
you
break
your
promise?
44
You
know
all
the
bad
things
you
did
to
my
father
David.
Now
the
Lord
will
punish
you
for
it.
45
But
the
Lord
will
bless
me
and
keep
David's
throne
before
him
forever."
46
Then
the
king
ordered
Benaiah
to
kill
Shimei,
and
he
did.
So
Solomon
had
full
control
of
his
kingdom.
Luke 21:33
33
The
whole
world,
earth
and
sky,
will
be
destroyed,
but
my
words
will
last
forever.

Solomon,
and
did
obeisance

and
he
said,
Peaceably:
14
I

And
she
said
to
him,
Say

15
And
he
said
to
her,
Thou

the

all
Israel
turned

but
the

16
And
now

And
Bersabee

Speak

17
And
he

Speak,

18
And
Bersabee
said,
Well;
I

19
And
Bersabee
went
in
to
king
Solomon
to
speak
to
him
concerning
Adonias;
and
the
king
rose
up
to
meet
her,
and
kissed
her,
and
sat
on
the
throne,
and
a
throne
was
set
for
the
mother
of
the
king,
and
she
sat
on
his
right
hand.
20
And
she
said
to
him,
I
ask
of
thee
one
little
request;
turn
not
away
my
face
from
thee.
And
the
king
said
to
her,
Ask,
my
mother,
and
I
will
not
reject
thee.
21
And
she
said,
Let,
I
pray
thee,
Abisag
the
Somanite
be
given
to
Adonias
thy
brother
to
wife.
22
And
king
Solomon
answered
and
said
to
his
mother,
And
why
hast
thou
asked
Abisag
for
Adonias?
ask
for
him
the
kingdom
also;
for
he
is
my
elder
brother,
and
he
has
for
his
companion
Abiathar
the
priest,
and
Joab
the
son
of
Saruia
the
commander-in-chief.
23
And
king
Solomon
swore
by
the
Lord,
saying,
God
do
so
to
me,
and
Gr.
add
these
things
more
also,
if
it
be
not
that
Adonias
has
spoken
this
word
against
his
own
life.
24
And
now
as
the
Lord
lives
who
has
established
me,
and
set
me
on
the
throne
of
my
father
David,
and
he
has
made
me
a
house,
as
the
Lord
spoke,
this
day
shall
Adonias
be
put
to
death.
25
So
king
Solomon
sent
by
the
hand
of
Banaeas
the
son
of
Jodae,
and
he
slew
him,
and
Adonias
died
in
that
day.
26
And
the
king
said
to
Abiathar
the
priest,
Depart
thou
quickly
to
Anathoth
to
thy
farm,
for
thou
art
Gr.
a
man
of
death
worthy
of
death
this
day;
but
I
will
not
slay
thee,
because
thou
hast
borne
the
ark
of
the
covenant
of
the
Lord
before
my
father,
and
because
thou
was
afflicted
in
all
things
wherein
my
father
was
afflicted.
27
And
Solomon
removed
Abiathar
from
being
a
priest
of
the
Lord,
that
the
word
of
the
Lord
might
be
fulfilled,
which
he
spoke
Or,
against
concerning
the
house
of
Heli
in
Selom.
28
And
the
report
came
to
Joab
son
of
Saruia;
for
Joab
had
turned
after
Adonias,
and
he
went
not
after
Solomon:
and
Joab
fled
to
the
tabernacle
of
the
Lord,
and
caught
hold
of
the
horns
of
the
altar.
29
And
it
was
told
Solomon,
saying,
Joab
has
fled
to
the
tabernacle
of
the
Lord,
and
lo!
he
has
hold
of
the
horns
of
the
altar.
And
king
Solomon
sent
to
Joab,
saying,
Gr.
What
has
happened
to
thee?
What
ails
thee,
that
thou
hast
fled
to
the
altar?
and
Joab
said,
Because
I
was
afraid
of
thee,
and
fled
for
refuge
to
the
Lord.
And
Solomon
sent
Banaeas
son
of
Jodae,
saying,
Go
and
slay
him,
and
bury
him.
30
And
Banaeas
son
of
Jodae
came
to
Joab
to
the
tabernacle
of
the
Lord,
and
said
to
him,
Thus
says
the
king,
Come
forth.
And
Joab
said,
I
Gr.
do
not
will
not
come
forth,
for
I
will
die
here.
And
Banaeas
son
of
Jodae
returned
and
spoke
to
the
king,
saying,
Thus
has
Joab
spoken,
and
thus
has
he
answered
me.
31
And
the
king
said
to
him,
Go,
and
do
to
him
as
he
has
spoken,
and
kill
him:
and
thou
shalt
bury
him,
and
thou
shalt
remove
this
day
the
blood
which
he
shed
without
cause,
from
me
and
from
the
house
of
my
father.
32
And
the
Lord
has
returned
upon
his
own
head
the
blood
of
his
unrighteousness,
inasmuch
as
he
attacked
two
men
more
righteous
and
better
than
himself,
and
slew
them
with
the
sword,
and
my
father
David
knew
not
of
their
blood,
even
Abenner
the
son
of
Ner
the
commander-in-chief
of
Israel,
and
Amessa
the
son
of
Jether
the
commander-in-chief
of
Juda.
33
And
their
blood
is
returned
upon
his
head,
and
upon
the
head
of
his
seed
for
ever:
but
to
David,
and
his
seed,
and
his
house,
and
his
throne,
may
there
be
peace
for
ever
from
the
Lord.
34
So
Banaeas
son
of
Jodae
went
up,
and
attacked
him,
and
slew
him,
and
buried
him
in
his
house
in
the
wilderness.
35
And
the
king
Gr.
gave
appointed
Banaeas
son
of
Jodae
in
his
place
over
the
host;
and
the
kingdom
was
established
in
Jerusalem;
and
as
for
Sadoc
the
priest,
the
king
appointed
him
to
be
high
priest
in
the
room
of
Abiathar.
And
Solomon
son
of
David
reigned
over
Israel
and
Juda
in
Jerusalem:
and
the
Lord
gave
understanding
to
Solomon,
and
very
much
wisdom,
and
largeness
of
heart,
as
the
sand
by
the
sea-shore.

-
And
the
wisdom
of
Solomon
abounded
exceedingly
beyond
the
wisdom
of
all
the
ancients,
and
beyond
all
the
wise
men
of
Egypt:
and
he
took
the
daughter
of
Pharao,
and
brought
her
into
the
city
of
David,
until
he
had
finished
building
his
own
house,
and
the
house
of
the
Lord
first,
and
the
wall
of
Jerusalem
round
about.
In
seven
years
he
made
and
finished
them.
-
And
Solomon
had
seventy
thousand
bearers
of
burdens,
and
eight
thousand
hewers
of
stone
in
the
mountain:
and
Solomon
made
the
sea,
and
the
bases,
and
the
great
lavers,
and
the
pillars,
and
the
fountain
of
the

and

he

the

as

he
made
a

David:
thus
the
daughter
of
Pharao
went
up
out
of
the
city
of
David
to
her
house
which
he
built
for
her.
Then
he
built
the
citadel:
and
Solomon
offered
up
three
whole-burnt-offerings
in
the
year,
and
peace-offerings
on
the
altar
which
he
built
to
the
Lord,
and
he
burnt
incense
before
the
Lord,
and
finished
the
house.
And
these
are
the
chief
persons
who
presided
over
the
works
of
Solomon;
three
thousand
and
six
hundred
masters
of
the
people
that
wrought
the
works.
And
he
burit
Assur,
and
Magdo,
and
Gazer,
and
upper
Baethoron,
and
Ballath:
only
after
he
had
built
the
house
of
the
Lord,
and
the
wall
of
Jerusalem
round
about,
afterwards
he
built
these
cities.
-
And
when
David
was
yet
living,
he
charged
Solomon,
saying,
Behold,
there
is
with
thee
Semei
the
son
of
Gera,
of
the
seed
of
Benjamin
out
of
Chebron:
he
cursed
me
with
a
grievous
curse
in
the
day
when
I
went
into
the
camp;
and
he
came
down
to
meet
me
at
Jordan,
and
I
swore
to
him
by
the
Lord,
saying,
He
shall
not
be
slain
with
the
sword.
But
now
do
not
thou
hold
him
guiltless,
for
thou
art
a
man
of
understanding,
and
thou
wilt
know
what
thou
shalt
do
to
him,
and
thou
shalt
bring
down
his
grey
hairs
with
blood
to
the
grave.
36
And
the
king
called
Semei,
and
said
to
him,
Build
thee
a
house
in
Jerusalem,
and
dwell
there,
and
thou
shalt
not
go
out
thence
any
whither.
37
And
it
shall
come
to
pass
in
the
day
Gr.
of
they
going
forth
that
thou
shalt
go
forth
and
cross
over

Gr.
knowing
thou
shalt

assuredly
that
thou
shalt
certainly
die:
thy
blood
shall
be
upon
thine
head.
And
the
king
caused
him
to
swear
in
that
day.
38
And
Semei
said
to
the
king,
Good
is
the
word
that
thou
hast
spoken,
my
lord
O
king:
thus
will
thy
servant
do.
And
Semei
dwelt
in
Jerusalem
three
years.
39
And
it
came
to
pass
after
the
three
years,
that
two
servants
of
Semei
ran
away
to
Anchus
son
of
Maacha
king
of
Geth:
and
it
was
told
Semei,
saying,
Behold,
thy
servants
are
in
Geth.
40
And
Semei
rose
up,
and
saddled
his
ass,
and
went
to
Geth
to
Anchus
to
seek
out
his
servants:
and
Semei
went,
and
brought
his
servants
out
of
Geth.
41
And
it
was
told
Solomon,
saying,
Semei
is
gone
out
of
Jerusalem
to
Geth,
and
has
brought
back
his
servants.
42
And
the
king
sent
and
called
Semei,
and
said
to
him,
Did
I
not
adjure
thee
by
the
Lord,
and
testify
to
thee,
saying,
In
whatsoever
day
thou
shalt
go
out
of
Jerusalem,
and
go
to
the
right
or
left,
know
certainly
that
thou
shalt
assuredly
die?
43
And
why
hast
thou
not
kept
the
oath
of
the
Lord,
and
the
commandment
which
I
commanded
Gr.
against
thee
thee?
44
And
the
king
said
to
Semei,
Thou
knowest
all
thy
mischief
which
thy
heart
knows,
which
thou
didst
to
David
my
father:
and
the
Lord
has
recompensed
thy
mischief
on
thine
own
head.
45
And
king
Solomon
is
blessed,
and
the
throne
of
David
shall
be
established
before
the
Lord
for
ever.
46
And
Solomon
commanded
Banaeas
the
son
of
Jodae,
and
he
went
forth
and
slew
him.
-
And
king
Solomon
was
very
prudent
and
wise:
and
Juda
and
Israel
were
very
many,
as
the
sand
which
is

for
multitude,
eating,
and
drinking,
and
rejoicing:
(2:46BA)

Solomon
was

kingdoms,
and
they
brought
gifts,
and
served
Solomon
all
the
days
of

life.
(2:46CA)
And
Solomon
began
to
open
the
domains
of
Libanus,
(2:46DA)
and
he
built
Thermae
in
the
wilderness.
(2:46EA)
And
this
was
the

dinner
daily

Solomon,
thirty

and
sixty

meal,
ten

and
twenty
oxen
from
the
pastures,
and
a
hundred
sheep,
besides
stags,
and
does,
and
choice

birds.
(2:46FA)
For
he
ruled
in
all
the

this

the

from
Raphi
unto
Gaza,
over
all
the

he

Israel

-
And
Solomon
had
forty
thousand

for

he

When
David's
time
to
die
was
near,
he
told
his
son
Solomon,
2
"I
am
going
the
way
of
all
the
earth.
So
be
strong.
Show
yourself
to
be
a
man.
3
Do
what
the

your

tells
you.
Walk
in
His
ways.
Keep
all
His

His

of
Moses.
Then
you
will
do
well
in
all
that
you
do
and
in
every
place
you
go.
4
Then
the
Lord
will
keep
His
promise
to
me.
He
has
said
to
me,
'Your
sons
must
be
careful
of
their
way,
to
walk
before
Me
in
truth
with
all
their
heart
and
soul.
If
they
do,
you
will
never
be
without
a
man
on
the
throne
of
Israel.'
5
Now
you
know
what
Zeruiah's
son
Joab
did
to
me.
You
know
what
he
did
to
the
two
captains
of
the

of
Israel.
He
killed
Abner
the
son
of

and
Amasa
the

peace
as
if
it

time
of
war.
He
put
the
blood
of
war
on
his
belt
and
on
the
shoes
of
his
feet.
6
So
act
with
wisdom.
Do
not
let
his

hair
go
down
to
the
grave
in
peace.
7
But
show
kindness
to
the
sons
of
Barzillai
the
Gileadite.
Let
them
be
among
those
who
eat
at
your
table.
For
they
helped
me
when
I
ran
from
your
brother
Absalom.
8
See,
there
is
with
you
Shimei
the
son
of
Gera
the
Benjamite,
of
Bahurim.
It
was
he
who
spoke
bad
words
against
me
on
the
day
I
went
to
Mahanaim.
But
when
he
came
down
to
me
at
the
Jordan,
I
promised
him
by
the
Lord,
saying,
'I
will
not
put
you
to
death
with
the
sword.'
9
So
do
not
let
him
go
without
being
punished.
For
you
are
a
wise
man.
You
will
know
what
you
should
do
to
him.
Bring
his
gray
hair
down
to
the
grave
with
blood."
10
Then
David
died
and
was
buried
in
the
city
of
David.
11
He
had
ruled
over
Israel
forty
years.
Seven
years
he
ruled
in
Hebron.
And
thirty-three
years
he
ruled
in
Jerusalem.
12
Solomon
sat
on
the
throne
of
his
father
David
and
things
went
well
for
the
nation.
13
Now
Adonijah
the
son
of
Haggith
came
to
Solomon's
mother
Bathsheba.
She
said,
"Do
you
come
in
peace?"
And
he
said,
"Yes,
in
peace."
14
Then
he
said,
"I
have
something
to
say
to
you."
And
she
said,
"Speak."
15
So
he
said,
"You
know
that
the
nation
was
mine.
All
Israel
thought
I
would
be
king.
But
the
nation
has
become
my
brother's,
for
it
was
his
from
the
Lord.
16
Now
I
have
one
thing
to
ask
of
you.
Do
not
say
no
to
me."
And
she
said
to
him,
"Speak."
17
He
said,
"I
beg
you,
speak
to
Solomon
the
king.
For
he
will
not
say
no
to
you.
Ask
him
to
give
me
Abishag
the
Shunammite
as
a
wife."
18
Bathsheba
said,
"Very
well.
I
will
speak
to
the
king
for
you."
19
So
Bathsheba
went
to
speak
to
King
Solomon
for
Adonijah.
The
king
stood
up
to
meet
her,
bowed
in
front
of
her,
then
sat
on
his
throne.
He
had
a
seat
brought
in
for
the
king's
mother,
and
she
sat
on
his
right.
20
She
said,
"I
am
asking
you
for
one
small
thing.
Do
not
say
no
to
me."
And
the
king
said
to
her,
"Ask,
my
mother.
I
will
not
say
no
to
you."
21
So
she
said,
"Let
Abishag
the
Shunammite
be
given
to
your
brother
Adonijah
as
his
wife."
22
King
Solomon
answered
his
mother,
"Why
are
you
asking
me
to
give
Abishag
the
Shunammite
to
Adonijah?
Ask
me
to
give
him
the
nation
also!
For
he
is
my
older
brother.
And
Abiathar
the
religious
leader
and
Joab
the
son
of
Zeruiah
are
on
his
side!"
23
Then
King
Solomon
swore
by
the
Lord,
saying,
"May
God
do
so
to
me
and
more,
if
Adonijah
has
not
asked
for
this
against
his
own
life.
24
The
Lord
has
given
me
my
place
on
the
throne
of
my
father
David.
He
has
made
me
a
house
as
He
promised.
And
as
the
Lord
lives,
for
sure
Adonijah
will
be
put
to
death
today."
25
So
King
Solomon
sent
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada,
and
he
went
to
Adonijah
and
killed
him.
26
Then
the
king
said
to
Abiathar
the
religious
leader,
"Go
to
your
own
fields
at
Anathoth,
for
you
should
be
put
to
death.
But
I
will
not
have
you
killed
at
this
time.
Because
you
carried
the
special
box
of
the
Lord
God
in
front
of
my
father
David.
And
you
shared
in
all
of
my
father's
suffering."
27
So
Solomon
stopped
Abiathar
from
being
religious
leader
for
the
Lord
any
longer.
This
was
done
to
keep
the
word
of
the
Lord,
which
God
had
spoken
about
the
family
of
Eli
in
Shiloh.
28
Now
the
news
came
to
Joab.
For
Joab
had
followed
Adonijah,
but
he
had
not
followed
Absalom.
And
Joab
ran
to
the
tent
of
the
Lord
and
took
hold
of
the
horns
of
the
altar.
29
King
Solomon
was
told
that
Joab
had
run
to
the
tent
of
the
Lord,
and
was
beside
the
altar.
Then
Solomon
sent
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada,
saying,
"Go
and
kill
him."
30
Benaiah
came
to
the
tent
of
the
Lord.
He
said
to
Joab,
"The
king
says
to
come
out."
But
Joab
said,
"No!
I
will
die
here."
So
Benaiah
returned
to
the
king
and
said,
"This
is
what
Joab
said.
This
is
how
he
answered
me."
31
The
king
said
to
him,
"Do
as
he
has
said.
Kill
him
and
bury
him.
In
this
way
you
will
take
away
from
me
and
my
father's
house
the
blood
of
those
killed
by
Joab
without
a
reason.
32
The
Lord
will
return
Joab's
acts
of
killing
upon
his
own
head.
Because
Joab
killed
two
men
who
were
right
and
good
and
better
than
he.
He
killed
them
with
the
sword
while
my
father
David
did
not
know
it.
He
killed
Abner
the
son
of
Ner,
captain
of
the
army
of
Israel,
and
Amasa
the
son
of
Jether,
captain
of
the
army
of
Judah.
33
So
their
blood
will
be
on
the
head
of
Joab
and
on
the
head
of
his
children
forever.
But
may
there
be
peace
from
the
Lord
forever
to
David
and
his
children,
his
house
and
his
throne."
34
Then
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada
went
up
and
killed
Joab.
He
was
buried
at
his
own
house
in
the
desert.
35
The
king
put
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada
over
the
army
in
Joab's
place.
And
the
king
put
Zadok
the
religious
leader
in
the
place
of
Abiathar.
36
Then
the
king
sent
for
Shimei
and
said
to
him,
"Build
a
house
for
yourself
in
Jerusalem
and
live
there.
Do
not
leave
there.
37
For
on
the
day
you
go
out
and
cross
the
river
Kidron,
you
will
know
for
sure
that
you
will
die.
Your
blood
will
be
on
your
own
head."
38
Shimei
said
to
the
king,
"What
you
say
is
good.
Your
servant
will
do
as
my
lord
the
king
has
said."
So
Shimei
lived
in
Jerusalem
many
days.
39
But
at
the
end
of
three
years,
two
of
Shimei's
servants
ran
away
to
Achish
the
son
of
Maacah,
king
of
Gath.
Shimei
was
told,
"See,
your
servants
are
in
Gath."
40
Then
Shimei
got
up
and
made
his
donkey
ready
to
travel.
And
he
went
to
Achish
in
Gath
to
look
for
his
servants.
Shimei
went
and
brought
his
servants
from
Gath.
41
Solomon
was
told
that
Shimei
had
gone
from
Jerusalem
to
Gath
and
had
returned.
42
So
the
king
sent
for
Shimei
and
said
to
him,
"Did
I
not
make
you
promise
by
the
Lord
and
tell
you
of
danger,
saying,
'You
will
know
for
sure
that
on
the
day
you
leave
and
go
anywhere,
you
will
die'?
And
you
said
to
me,
'What
you
have
said
is
good.'
43
Then
why
have
you
not
kept
the
promise
of
the
Lord?
Why
have
you
not
done
what
I
told
you?"
44
And
the
king
said
to
Shimei,
"You
know
in
your
heart
all
the
bad
things
you
did
to
my
father
David.
So
the
Lord
will
return
your
sin
upon
your
own
head.
45
But
good
will
come
to
King
Solomon.
The
throne
of
David
will
keep
its
place
before
the
Lord
forever."
46
So
the
king
told
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada,
and
he
went
out
and
killed
Shimei.
The
nation
was
put
under
the
rule
of
Solomon.

"Heaven
and
earth
will
pass
away,
but
My
Words
will
not
pass
away.

I

a
wise
man,
and
you
will
know
what

to

but
you

10
Then
David
died
and
was
buried
with
his
ancestors
in
Jerusalem.
11
He
had
ruled
over
Israel
forty
years
--
seven
years
in
Hebron
and
thirty-three
years
in
Jerusalem.
12
Solomon
became
king
after
David,
his
father,
and
he
was
in
firm
control
of
his
kingdom.
13
At
this
time
Adonijah
son
of
Haggith
went
to
Bathsheba,
Solomon's
mother.
"Do
you
come
in
peace?"
Bathsheba
asked.
"Yes.
This
is
a
peaceful
visit,"
Adonijah
answered.
14
"I
have
something
to
say
to
you."
"You
may
speak,"
she
said.
15
"You
remember
that
at
one
time
the
kingdom
was
mine,"
Adonijah
said.
"All
the
people
of
Israel
recognized
me
as
their
king,
but
things
have
changed.
Now
my
brother
is
the
king,
because
the
Lord
chose
him.
16
Now
I
have
one
thing
to
ask
you;
please
do
not
refuse
me."
Bathsheba
answered,
"What
do
you
want?"
17
"I
know
King
Solomon
will
do
anything
you
ask
him,"
Adonijah
continued.
"Please
ask
him
to
give
me
Abishag
the
Shunammite
to
be
my
wife."
18
"Very
well,"
she
answered.
"I
will
speak
to
the
king
for
you."
19
So
Bathsheba
went
to
King
Solomon
to
speak
to
him
for
Adonijah.
When
Solomon
saw
her,
he
stood
up
to
meet
her,
then
bowed
down,
and
sat
on
the
throne.
He
told
some
servants
to
bring
another
throne
for
his
mother.
Then
she
sat
down
at
his
right
side.
20
Bathsheba
said,
"I
have
one
small
thing
to
ask
you.
Please
do
not
refuse
me."
"Ask,
mother,"
the
king
answered.
"I
will
not
refuse
you."
21
So
she
said,
"Allow
Abishag
the
Shunammite
to
marry
your
brother
Adonijah."
22
King
Solomon
answered
his
mother,
"Why
do
you
ask
me
to
give
him
Abishag?
Why
don't
you
also
ask
for
him
to
become
the
king
since
he
is
my
older
brother?
Abiathar
the
priest
and
Joab
son
of
Zeruiah
would
support
him!"
23
Then
King
Solomon
swore
by
the
name
of
the
Lord,
saying,
"May
God
punish
me
terribly
if
this
doesn't
cost
Adonijah
his
life!
24
By
the
Lord
who
has
given
me
the
throne
that
belonged
to
my
father
David
and
who
has
kept
his
promise
and
given
the
kingdom
to
me
and
my
people,
Adonijah
will
die
today!"
25
Then
King
Solomon
gave
orders
to
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada,
and
he
went
and
killed
Adonijah.
26
King
Solomon
said
to
Abiathar
the
priest,
"I
should
kill
you
too,
but
I
will
allow
you
to
go
back
to
your
fields
in
Anathoth.
I
will
not
kill
you
at
this
time,
because
you
helped
carry
the
Ark
of
the
Lord
God
while
marching
with
my
father
David.
And
I
know
you
shared
in
all
the
hard
times
with
him."
27
Then
Solomon
removed
Abiathar
from
being
the
Lord's
priest.
This
happened
as
the
Lord
had
said
it
would,
when
he
was
speaking
in
Shiloh
about
the
priest
Eli
and
his
descendants.
28
When
Joab
heard
about
what
had
happened,
he
was
afraid.
He
had
supported
Adonijah
but
not
Absalom.
So
Joab
ran
to
the
Tent
of
the
Lord
and
took
hold
of
the
corners
of
the
altar.
29
Someone
told
King
Solomon
that
Joab
had
run
to
the
Tent
of
the
Lord
and
was
beside
the
altar.
Then
Solomon
ordered
Benaiah
to
go
and
kill
him.
30
Benaiah
went
into
the
Tent
of
the
Lord
and
said
to
Joab,
"The
king
says,
'Come
out!'"
But
Joab
answered,
"No,
I
will
die
here."
So
Benaiah
went
back
to
the
king
and
told
him
what
Joab
had
said.
31
Then
the
king
ordered
Benaiah,
"Do
as
he
says!
Kill
him
there
and
bury
him.
Then
my
family
and
I
will
be
free
of
the
guilt
of
Joab,
who
has
killed
innocent
people.
32
Without
my
father
knowing
it,
he
killed
two
men
who
were
much
better
than
he
was
--
Abner
son
of
Ner,
the
commander
of
Israel's
army,
and
Amasa
son
of
Jether,
the
commander
of
Judah's
army.
So
the
Lord
will
pay
him
back
for
those
deaths.
33
Joab
and
his
family
will
be
forever
guilty
for
their
deaths,
but
there
will
be
peace
from
the
Lord
for
David,
his
descendants,
his
family,
and
his
throne
forever."
34
So
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada
killed
Joab,
and
he
was
buried
near
his
home
in
the
desert.
35
The
king
then
made
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada
commander
of
the
army
in
Joab's
place.
He
also
made
Zadok
the
new
high
priest
in
Abiathar's
place.
36
Next
the
king
sent
for
Shimei.
Solomon
said
to
him,
"Build
a
house
for
yourself
in
Jerusalem
and
live
there.
Don't
leave
the
city.
37
The
very
day
you
leave
and
cross
the
Kidron
Valley,
someone
will
kill
you,
and
it
will
be
your
own
fault."
38
So
Shimei
answered
the
king,
"I
agree
with
what
you
say.
I
will
do
what
you
say,
my
master
and
king."
So
Shimei
lived
in
Jerusalem
for
a
long
time.
39
But
three
years
later
two
of
Shimei's
slaves
ran
away
to
Achish
king
of
Gath,
who
was
the
son
of
Maacah.
Shimei
heard
that
his
slaves
were
in
Gath,
40
so
he
put
his
saddle
on
his
donkey
and
went
to
Achish
at
Gath
to
find
them.
Then
he
brought
them
back
from
Gath.
41
Someone
told
Solomon
that
Shimei
had
gone
from
Jerusalem
to
Gath
and
had
returned.
42
So
Solomon
sent
for
Shimei
and
said,
"I
made
you
promise
in
the
name
of
the
Lord
not
to
leave
Jerusalem.
I
warned
you
if
you
went
out
anywhere
you
would
die,
and
you
agreed
to
what
I
said.
43
Why
did
you
break
your
promise
to
the
Lord
and
disobey
my
command?"
44
The
king
also
said,
"You
know
the
many
wrong
things
you
did
to
my
father
David,
so
now
the
Lord
will
punish
you
for
those
wrongs.
45
But
the
Lord
will
bless
me
and
make
the
rule
of
David
safe
before
the
Lord
forever."
46
Then
the
king
ordered
Benaiah
to
kill
Shimei,
and
he
did.
Now
Solomon
was
in
full
control
of
his
kingdom.
Luke 21:33
33
Earth
and
sky
will
be
destroyed,
but
the
words
I
have
spoken
will
never
be
destroyed.

near
to
me
when
I
fled
from
the
face
of
your
brother
Absalom.
8
And,
behold,
with
you
is
Shimei
the
son
of
Gera,
the
Benjamite
of
Bahurim.
And
he
cursed
me
with
a
grievous
cursing
in
the
day
I
went
to
Mahanaim.
And
he
came
down
to
meet
me
at
the
Jordan,
and
I
swore
to
him
by
Jehovah,
saying,
I
will
not
cause
you
to
die
by
the
sword.
9
And
now,
do
not
acquit
him,
for
you
are
a
wise
man,
and
you
know
that
which
you
shall
do
to
him
and
shall
bring
his
old
age
down
with
blood
to
Sheol.
10
And
David
lay
with
his
fathers,
and
was
buried
in
the
city
of
David.
11
And
the
days
that
David
reigned
over
Israel
were
forty
years.
He
reigned
seven
years
in
Hebron,
and
he
reigned
thirty
three
years
in
Jerusalem.
12
And
Solomon
sat
on
the
throne
of
his
father
David,
and
his
kingdom
was
firmly
established.
13
And
Adonijah
the
son
of
Haggith
came
in
to
Bathsheba,
the
mother
of
Solomon.
And
she
said,
Do
you
come
in
peace?
And
he
said,
Peace.
14
And
he
said,
A
word
to
you
and
to
me?
And
she
said,
Speak.
15
And
he
said,
You
know
that
the
kingdom
was
mine,
and
all
Israel
had
set
their
faces
toward
me
to
reign.
Yet
the
kingdom
has
been
turned
around
and
is
my
brother's,
because
it
was
his
from
Jehovah.
16
And
now
I
am
asking
one
petition
of
you.
Do
not
turn
away
your
face.
And
she
said
to
him,
Speak.
17
And
he
said,
Please
speak
to
King
Solomon,
for
he
will
not
turn
away
your
face,
that
he
give
to
me
Abishag
the
Shunammite
for
a
wife.
18
And
Bathsheba
said,
Well!
I
will
speak
to
the
king
for
you.
19
And
Bathsheba
came
in
to
King
Solomon
to
speak
to
him
for
Adonijah.
And
the
king
rose
up
to
meet
her,
and
bowed
to
her,
and
sat
on
his
throne,
and
placed
a
throne
for
the
king's
mother.
And
she
sat
at
his
right
hand.
20
And
she
said,
I
ask
one
small
petition
of
you.
Do
not
turn
away
my
face.
And
the
king
said
to
her,
Ask,
my
mother,
for
I
will
not
turn
away
your
face.
21
And
she
said,
let
Abishag
the
Shunammite
be
given
to
your
brother
Adonijah
for
a
wife.
22
And
King
Solomon
answered
and
said
to
his
mother,
And
why
are
you
asking
Abishag
the
Shunammite
for
Adonijah?
Also
ask
the
kingdom
for
him,
for
he
is
my
older
brother;
yea,
for
him,
and
for
Abiathar
the
priest,
and
for
Joab
the
son
of
Zeruiah.
23
And
King
Solomon
swore
by
Jehovah,
saying,
So
shall
God
do
to
me,
and
so
shall
He
do
more,
if
Adonijah
has
not
spoken
this
word
against
his
life.
24
And
now,
as
Jehovah
lives,
who
has
established
me
and
caused
me
to
sit
on
the
throne
of
my
father
David,
and
who
has
made
a
house
for
me,
as
He
spoke,
surely
today
Adonijah
shall
be
made
to
die.
25
And
King
Solomon
sent
by
the
hand
of
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada,
and
he
fell
on
him,
and
he
died.
26
And
the
king
said
to
Abiathar
the
priest,
Go
to
Anathoth,
to
your
fields.
For
you
are
a
man
of
death.
But
I
will
not
at
this
time
cause
you
to
die,
because
you
have
borne
the
ark
of
the
Lord
Jehovah
before
my
father
David,
and
because
you
were
afflicted
in
all
the
things
with
which
my
father
was
afflicted.
27
And
Solomon
drove
Abiathar
from
being
priest
to
Jehovah,
to
fulfill
the
Word
of
Jehovah
which
He
spoke
concerning
the
house
of
Eli
in
Shiloh.
28
And
the
report
came
to
Joab,
for
Joab
had
turned
aside
after
Adonijah
though
he
did
not
turn
aside
after
Absalom.
And
Joab
fled
to
the
tabernacle
of
Jehovah,
and
lay
hold
on
the
horns
of
the
altar.
29
And
it
was
told
to
King
Solomon
that
Joab
had
fled
to
the
tabernacle
of
Jehovah,
and,
behold,
he
was
by
the
altar.
And
Solomon
sent
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada,
saying,
Go,
fall
on
him.
30
And
Benaiah
came
into
the
tabernacle
of
Jehovah
and
said
to
him,
So
says
the
king,
Come
out.
And
he
said,
No,
but
I
will
die
here.
And
Benaiah
brought
back
word
to
the
king,
saying,
So
says
Joab.
Yea,
so
he
answered
me.
31
And
the
king
said
to
him,
Do
as
he
has
said,
and
fall
on
him,
and
bury
him,
and
turn
aside
the
innocent
blood
which
Joab
shed,
off
of
me
and
off
of
my
father's
house.
32
And
Jehovah
shall
turn
back
his
blood
on
his
own
head,
who
has
fallen
on
two
men
more
righteous
and
better
than
he,
and
murdered
them
with
the
sword;
and
my
father
David
not
knowing:
Abner
the
son
of
Ner,
the
commander
of
the
army
of
Israel,
and
Amasa
the
son
of
Jether,
the
commander
of
the
army
of
Judah.
33
Yea,
He
shall
turn
back
their
blood
on
the
head
of
Joab,
and
on
the
head
of
his
seed
forever.
And
as
for
David
and
for
his
seed,
and
for
his
house,
and
for
his
throne,
there
shall
be
peace
forever
from
Jehovah.
34
And
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada
went
up
and
fell
on
him,
and
caused
him
to
die.
And
he
was
buried
in
his
own
house
in
the
wilderness.
35
And
the
king
put
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada
in
his
place
over
the
army.
And
the
king
put
Zadok
the
priest
in
the
place
of
Abiathar.
36
And
the
king
sent
and
called
Shimei
and
said
to
him,
Build
a
house
for
yourself
in
Jerusalem
and
live
there,
and
do
not
go
out
from
there
anywhere.
37
And
it
shall
be,
in
the
day
you
go
out
and
cross
the
torrent
Kidron,
knowing
you
shall
know
that
dying
you
shall
die;
your
blood
shall
be
on
your
head.
38
And
Shimei
said
to
the
king,
The
word
is
good.
As
my
lord
the
king
has
spoken,
so
your
servant
shall
do.
And
Shimei
lived
in
Jerusalem
many
days.
39
And
it
happened
at
the
end
of
three
years,
two
of
Shimei's
servants
fled
to
Achish
the
son
of
Maachah,
the
king
of
Gath.
And
they
told
Shimei,
saying,
Behold,
your
servants
are
in
Gath.
40
And
Shimei
rose
up
and
saddled
his
ass
and
went
to
Gath,
to
Achish,
to
seek
his
servants.
And
Shimei
went
and
brought
his
servants
from
Gath.
41
And
it
was
told
to
Solomon
that
Shimei
had
gone
from
Jerusalem
to
Gath,
and
had
returned.
42
And
the
king
sent
and
called
for
Shimei,
and
said
to
him,
Did
I
not
cause
you
to
swear
by
Jehovah,
and
testify
to
you,
saying,
In
the
day
you
go
out,
and
you
have
gone
anywhere,
knowing
you
shall
know
that
dying
you
shall
die.
And
you
said
to
me,
The
word
I
have
heard
is
good.
43
And
why
have
you
not
kept
the
oath
of
Jehovah,
and
the
charge
that
I
commanded
you?
44
And
the
king
said
to
Shimei,
You
shall
know
all
the
evil
that
your
heart
has
known,
that
which
you
did
to
my
father
David.
Now
Jehovah
has
turned
back
your
evil
on
your
head.
45
And
King
Solomon
shall
be
blessed,
and
the
throne
of
David
shall
be
established
before
Jehovah
forever.
46
And
the
king
commanded
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada,
and
he
went
out
and
fell
on
him,
and
he
died.
And
the
kingdom
was
established
in
the
hand
of
Solomon.

The
heaven
and
the
earth
will
pass
away,
but
My
Words
will
not
pass
away,
never!

As
the

approached
for
David
to
die,
he
instructed
his

Solomon,
2
"As
for

10
Then
David
rested
with
his
fathers
and
was
buried
in
the
city
of
David.
11
The
length
of
time
David
reigned
over
Israel
was
40
years:
he
reigned
seven
years
in
Hebron
and
33
years
in
Jerusalem.
12
Solomon
sat
on
the
throne
of
his
father
David,
and
his
kingship
was
firmly
established.
13
Now
Adonijah
son
of
Haggith
came
to
Bathsheba,
Solomon's
mother.
She
asked,
"Do
you
come
peacefully?"
"Peacefully,"
he
replied,
14
and
then
asked,
"May
I
talk
with
you?"
"Go
ahead,"
she
answered.
15
"You
know
the
kingship
was
mine,"
he
said.
"All
Israel
expected
me
to
be
king,
but
then
the
kingship
was
turned
over
to
my
brother,
for
the
LORD
gave
it
to
him.
16
So
now
I
have
just
one
request
of
you;
don't
turn
me
down."
She
said
to
him,
"Go
on."
17
He
replied,
"Please
speak
to
King
Solomon
since
he
won't
turn
you
down.
Let
him
give
me
Abishag
the
Shunammite
as
a
wife."
18
"Very
well,"
Bathsheba
replied.
"I
will
speak
to
the
king
for
you."
19
So
Bathsheba
went
to
King
Solomon
to
speak
to
him
about
Adonijah.
The
king
stood
up
to
greet
her,
bowed
to
her,
sat
down
on
his
throne,
and
had
a
throne
placed
for
the
king's
mother.
So
she
sat
down
at
his
right
hand.
20
Then
she
said,
"I
have
just
one
small
request
of
you.
Don't
turn
me
down."
"
Go
ahead
and
ask,
mother,"
the
king
replied,
"for
I
won't
turn
you
down."
21
So
she
said,
"Let
Abishag
the
Shunammite
be
given
to
your
brother
Adonijah
as
a
wife."
22
King
Solomon
answered
his
mother,
"Why
are
you
requesting
Abishag
the
Shunammite
for
Adonijah?
Since
he
is
my
elder
brother,
you
might
as
well
ask
the
kingship
for
him,
for
Abiathar
the
priest,
and
for
Joab
son
of
Zeruiah."
23
Then
Solomon
took
an
oath
by
the
LORD:
"May
God
punish
me
and
do
so
severely
if
Adonijah
has
not
made
this
request
at
the
cost
of
his
life.
24
And
now,
as
the
LORD
lives,
the
One
who
established
me,
seated
me
on
the
throne
of
my
father
David,
and
made
me
a
dynasty
as
He
promised--
I
swear
Adonijah
will
be
put
to
death
today!"
25
Then
King
Solomon
gave
the
order
to
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada,
who
struck
down
Adonijah,
and
he
died.
26
The
king
said
to
Abiathar
the
priest,
"Go
to
your
fields
in
Anathoth.
Even
though
you
deserve
to
die,
I
will
not
put
you
to
death
today,
since
you
carried
the
ark
of
the
Lord
God
in
the
presence
of
my
father
David
and
you
suffered
through
all
that
my
father
suffered."
27
So
Solomon
banished
Abiathar
from
being
the
LORD's
priest,
and
it
fulfilled
the
LORD's
prophecy
He
had
spoken
at
Shiloh
against
Eli's
family.
28
The
news
reached
Joab.
Since
he
had
supported
Adonijah
but
not
Absalom,
Joab
fled
to
the
LORD's
tabernacle
and
took
hold
of
the
horns
of
the
altar.
29
It
was
reported
to
King
Solomon:
"Joab
has
fled
to
the
LORD's
tabernacle
and
is
now
beside
the
altar."
Then
Solomon
sent
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada
and
told
him
,
"Go
and
strike
him
down!"
30
So
Benaiah
went
to
the
tabernacle
and
said
to
Joab,
"This
is
what
the
king
says:
'Come
out!'
"
But
Joab
said,
"No,
for
I
will
die
here."
So
Benaiah
took
a
message
back
to
the
king,
"This
is
what
Joab
said,
and
this
is
how
he
answered
me."
31
The
king
said
to
him,
"Do
just
as
he
says.
Strike
him
down
and
bury
him
in
order
to
remove
from
me
and
from
my
father's
house
the
blood
that
Joab
shed
without
just
cause.
32
The
LORD
will
bring
back
his
own
blood
on
his
own
head
because
he
struck
down
two
men
more
righteous
and
better
than
he,
without
my
father
David's
knowledge.
With
his
sword,
Joab
murdered
Abner
son
of
Ner,
commander
of
Israel's
army,
and
Amasa
son
of
Jether,
commander
of
Judah's
army.
33
Their
blood
will
come
back
on
Joab's
head
and
on
the
head
of
his
descendants
forever,
but
for
David,
his
descendants,
his
dynasty,
and
his
throne,
there
will
be
peace
from
the
LORD
forever."
34
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada
went
up,
struck
down
Joab,
and
put
him
to
death.
He
was
buried
at
his
house
in
the
wilderness.
35
Then
the
king
appointed
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada
in
Joab's
place
over
the
army,
and
he
appointed
Zadok
the
priest
in
Abiathar's
place.
36
Then
the
king
summoned
Shimei
and
said
to
him,
"Build
a
house
for
yourself
in
Jerusalem
and
live
there,
but
don't
leave
there
and
go
anywhere
else.
37
On
the
day
you
do
leave
and
cross
the
Kidron
Valley,
know
for
sure
that
you
will
certainly
die.
Your
blood
will
be
on
your
own
head."
38
Shimei
said
to
the
king,
"The
sentence
is
fair;
your
servant
will
do
as
my
lord
the
king
has
spoken."
And
Shimei
lived
in
Jerusalem
for
a
long
time.
39
But
then,
at
the
end
of
three
years,
two
of
Shimei's
slaves
ran
away
to
Achish
son
of
Maacah,
king
of
Gath.
Shimei
was
informed,
"Look,
your
slaves
are
in
Gath."
40
So
Shimei
saddled
his
donkey
and
set
out
to
Achish
at
Gath
to
search
for
his
slaves.
He
went
and
brought
them
back
from
Gath.
41
It
was
reported
to
Solomon
that
Shimei
had
gone
from
Jerusalem
to
Gath
and
had
returned.
42
So
the
king
summoned
Shimei
and
said
to
him,
"Didn't
I
make
you
swear
by
the
LORD
and
warn
you,
saying,
'On
the
day
you
leave
and
go
anywhere
else,
know
for
sure
that
you
will
certainly
die'?
And
you
said
to
me,
'The
sentence
is
fair;
I
will
obey.'
43
So
why
have
you
not
kept
the
LORD's
oath
and
the
command
that
I
gave
you?"
44
The
king
also
said,
"You
yourself
know
all
the
evil
that
you
did
to
my
father
David.
Therefore,
the
LORD
has
brought
back
your
evil
on
your
head,
45
but
King
Solomon
will
be
blessed,
and
David's
throne
will
remain
established
before
the
LORD
forever."
46
Then
the
king
commanded
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada,
and
he
went
out
and
struck
Shimei
down,
and
he
died.
So
the
kingdom
was
established
in
Solomon's
hand.
Luke 21:33
33
Heaven
and
earth
will
pass
away,
but
My
words
will
never
pass
away.
